WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Under the crisp Friday night lights at Ross-Ade Stadium, a flurry of defensive takeaways wasn't quite enough to cure Purdue's offensive stall, as the Washington Huskies leaned on an explosive 488-yard offensive display to secure a 38-26 Big Ten victory.

The Boilermakers (3-4 overall, 2-2 Big Ten) turned defense into chaos early. Purdue forced a staggering five turnovers—marking their highest single-game defensive takeaway total since October 2015—including three interceptions off Washington quarterback Elijah Brown. The tone was set on the very first play from scrimmage when defensive back Hudauri Hines jumped a route to pick off Brown, his second career interception.
Yet, Washington (4-3, 1-3) continually counterpunched with big plays. Brown recovered from his early miscues to complete 21-of-27 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns. His favorite target, Chris Lawson, racked up 103 yards on six catches, while Trey Cooley gashed the Purdue defense with a game-clashing 53-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Cooley finished with 113 yards on the ground as the Huskies averaged 8 yards per play.
Purdue kept pace through sheer grit and a stellar night from wide receiver Asaad Waseem, who hauled in a game-high nine receptions for 119 yards. Boilermakers quarterback Ryan Browne battled through a tough evening, going 21-of-41 for 273 passing yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, while adding 15 rushing yards and a score on the ground.
The game’s pivotal turning point arrived in the final frame. Trailing 31-26 following Browne's eight-yard rushing touchdown and a 49-yard bomb to Waseem, Purdue's defense forced a fumble recovered by Dee Newsome to give the Boilermakers new life. But Washington's defense stiffened, holding Purdue on downs at the 45-yard line. Two plays later, Cooley broke free for his 53-yard house call with 10:30 remaining, extending the Huskies' lead to 38-26 and putting the game out of reach.
Purdue freshman kicker Jacobo Echeverria Lozano remained a bright spot, drilling both of his field goal attempts, including a booming 48-yard career-match in the third quarter. Despite out-gaining Washington in territory possession and converting clean red-zone trips, the Boilermakers' 5-of-14 mark on third down proved fatal against a relentless Washington aerial attack.
