WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Fame Ijeboi ended his night the way he spent most of it, head down and legs churning, dropping into the end zone from a yard out against the program he left behind. Three times Saturday he crossed the goal line against Minnesota. By the end, the Boilermakers had flattened the Golden Gophers 41-13 at Ross-Ade Stadium.
For a program that lost 19 straight Big Ten games before last week’s win at Illinois, this was a statement. Purdue has now won back-to-back conference games for the first time since 2022. It did so by out-gaining Minnesota 458 yards to 273 and out-rushing the Gophers 299-25. The Boilermaker defense showed up and never allowed the Gophers to get a single first down on the ground. It was Purdue’s most "complimentary football" showing of the season, and the cleanest football the Boilermakers have played under Odom.

Ijeboi carried 31 times for 195 yards and three touchdowns, all career highs except the touchdown total, which he tied. Saturday’s total is the most by any Boilermaker against Minnesota in the series, topping Mike Alstott’s 183 in 1994. He is also the first Purdue back to run for 195 yards and three scores in a game since Montrell Lowe did it in the 2000 Old Oaken Bucket game.
“He’s got the heart of a champion,” Odom said of the back. Ijeboi framed the night in terms of his teammates. He said it was “an opportunity to show them how much I care about them,” and he gave much of the credit to the offensive line, which didn’t allow a sack. Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck said watching Ijeboi succeed wasn’t difficult, calling him a great kid and saying the decision to transfer was his to make.
The game was effectively decided in the first half, when Ijeboi and quarterback Ryan Browne ran at will. Purdue outgained Minnesota 155-38 in the first quarter and led 10-0 after it. Browne’s first throw of the night went 30 yards to De’Nylon Morrissette, and the Boilermakers followed with a 45-yard Jacobo Echeverria Lozano field goal. Then came the drive that set the tone: 14 plays, 98 yards, 7:55 off the clock, the longest march of Purdue’s season by yardage. It ended with Browne dodging pressure and finding George Burhenn from 15 yards out on third-and-7.
By halftime it was 20-3, and Ijeboi had 131 yards of his own, exactly matching Minnesota’s total offense for the first 30 minutes. The Gophers had mustered a single first down on their first two possessions. Their only first-half points came on a 49-yard Luke Drzewiecki field goal. Browne added a 33-yard scramble to the 10 on the drive that Ijeboi finished with a 3-yard run, and Jojo Hayden picked off Drake Lindsey on fourth down in the final minute for the first interception of his career.
The second half opened as the first had ended. Purdue went 69 yards in seven plays, including Ijeboi’s 30-yard burst up the middle, and he punched in a one-yard direct snap for a 27-3 lead. Minnesota briefly showed life. It added a field goal, then Lindsey hit Jalen Smith deep for a 42-yard touchdown with 3:11 left in the third, trimming the margin to 27-13. Smith finished with 89 yards on three catches, and Lindsey threw for 248 yards, but almost all of it came through the air, and almost none of it mattered.
The Boilermakers had the answer, and it set the final tone. Purdue marched 75 yards in nine plays, using 4:54 of clock. It finished with Browne selling a pass fake, freezing a defender and rolling left into the end zone from 12 yards out. Browne ran seven times for 81 yards and completed 14 of 24 passes for 159 yards. Minnesota’s next series died on a stuffed fourth-and-2 at its own 40. After Purdue punted, Javon Tracy muffed the return, and John Slaughter recovered at the Minnesota 10. Ijeboi finished the job with a direct snap on fourth-and-goal from the 1 with 7:35 remaining.
Odom pointed to the trenches on both sides. “Defensively, we had a push and reestablished the line of scrimmage,” he said. The numbers back him up. Minnesota managed 10 first downs, the fewest a Purdue defense has allowed since 2017, and the Gophers converted just 4 of 13 third downs. Purdue went a perfect 6 for 6 in the red zone with five touchdowns, and Echeverria Lozano was 2-for-2 on field goals and 5-for-5 on extra points. Purdue returns home, to try for three wins in a row, next Friday to face Washington.
